Come to the San Francisco Bay Area to improve your Legal English skills

Private and Semi-Private classes available

Your lessons will take place in a comfortable, fully equipped classroom located in a private home in the hills just a few minutes north of the University of California at Berkeley. You can step outside during breaks to sip your complementary coffee or tea and enjoy the beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay.

The content of your course will emphasize the use of authentic materials, including current issues of interest, and will focus on communicative skills, emphasizing both vocabulary development and usage, with opportunity for improving reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. 

In addition to classroom work, your course will include one or more field trips to observe a trial or appellate argument in progress in an American court, and if possible will include a visit to at least one jury trial.  If you choose a 10-day plan, we can also arrange for you to meet with an American lawyer, and we will try to find someone who practices in your field or a field closely related to yours.

If you choose a plan with 23 or 44 hours of instruction, you will work with two different tutors, both of whom are lawyers and language instructors. 

You may tailor your course to fit your interests and needs:

  • Choose a standard LEI curriculum or design your own curriculum from the subjects available

  • Register for private, one-on-one instruction or register with a colleague for semi-private instruction at a lower fee rate per person

  • Choose a one-week or two-week plan, with 3 hours or 5 hours  per day of instruction

  • Include a meeting with an American lawyer in your curriculum, or use all your field trip time to observe trials and/or appellate arguments in American courts
